20:03
20:04
Petra, are you here? What is it what we hear?
SA
20:04
Sam Auinger
same question?
P
20:04
Petra Kapš OR poiesis
Hello!
20:04
We started with water ;)
20:05
20:05
FG
20:05
Flavien Gillié
Hello !
P
20:05
Petra Kapš OR poiesis
This is Piramida Hill, kind of city forest, just above Maribor
u
20:06
unosonic
to me it sounds as if there were voices in the water flow
P
20:07
Petra Kapš OR poiesis
And on the top, there are these metal doors, just doors, and sometimes water flow is audible, like now
20:08
Yes, it is interesting ...ones I was sitting there, and from silence this loud sound started, behind my back, inside the doors
SA
20:08
Sam Auinger
I hear a kind of hard space which provides a of reverb
P
20:10
Petra Kapš OR poiesis
Maybe concrete shaft
u
20:11
unosonic
how loud is that sound, say when you are a few meters away from the door?
P
20:12
Petra Kapš OR poiesis
It is loud, you hear it from afar, and these adda to the strangeness, as it is hill top
PC
20:13
Peter Cusack
Hello
u
20:14
unosonic
hello Peter & all!
SA
20:14
Sam Auinger
hello to everybody
P
20:14
Petra Kapš OR poiesis
Hello!
u
20:16
unosonic
half an hour ago it was quiet on Piramida hill.
P
20:17
Petra Kapš OR poiesis
It is cold and rainy may this year, a lot of water, so maybe this is why this thing is so active
PC
20:20
Peter Cusack
It's nice to hear the bird song emerging from the water
u
20:21
unosonic
this water deep down reminds me on a sound, which I knew was real, but impossible to hear, where I always could hear it... the sound of a little magic creek disappearing in a big tube. I could hear it at night when I was a kid, in a small village. The creek was beautiful, but the imagination of that stream underearth was melancholic
P
20:21
Petra Kapš OR poiesis
Indeed! Blackbird maybe
20:22
Waw, what a beautiful sonic memory!
u
20:23
unosonic
the creek has disappeard too, some years ago because of the expanding village.
some years ago I recorded that sound around midnight, it is on the maps.
P
20:24
Petra Kapš OR poiesis
For me the sound is much connect with curiosity, I imagine all sorts of thing behind the doors, sometim just drops of water are audible, seems very deep
20:25
Hight of Piramida Hill is 386 meter
20:27
Nice voice intervention
20:27
Birds are getting louder, it is their time now
u
20:27
unosonic
you mean me talking on the radio? ;)
P
20:27
Petra Kapš OR poiesis
Yes ;)
TP
20:28
Tomasz Pizio
that's my first live listening together here on this telegram channel and I admit it does make a difference to know it's live and we're all listening to the same thing at the same time. Someone mentioned that on the aporee channel and I feel that now. I like that a lot. Thanks for organizing this.
And it's always lovely to hear Udo giving us some context :)
u
20:28
unosonic
@all this stream is also on air on radio.aporee.org, where I add a comment here and there... ;)
PC
20:30
Peter Cusack
After hearing one bird I'm hearing others, but some of them are imaginary. There probably isn't a real cuckoo but one is present in the frequencies of the water.
P
20:30
Petra Kapš OR poiesis
Yes, voice commenting sounds very good
u
20:31
unosonic
I also have that acoustic impression. I hear kids shouting in the distance, like from a distant playgound.
P
20:31
Petra Kapš OR poiesis
Water is always so multilayered, listening to it it takes to the imaginary scapes, this one is hypnotic also
SA
20:33
Sam Auinger
In reply to this message
yes, very hypnotic for me
u
20:34
unosonic
reminds me on one of Italo Calvinos Invisible Cities, where all buildings of that city are dismantled, only water tubes and installations are left, wherein elves and water spirits live. you can hear their whispering
P
20:35
Petra Kapš OR poiesis
I love that book, just had it recently at home from the library, great parallel
SA
20:35
Sam Auinger
i cannot hear the spatial information in the bird sounds..it is masked by the water...what typ of forest we are in..how big are the trees ?
P
20:37
Petra Kapš OR poiesis
Mostly beech, owk, some pine trees, high ...
SA
20:37
Sam Auinger
wow this trop gives space to lots of things
P
20:37
Petra Kapš OR poiesis
Now it stopped
PC
20:37
Peter Cusack
Who controls the flow?
20:37
And why/
TP
20:37
Tomasz Pizio
wow.. that turned out to be a nice fade-out
P
20:38
Petra Kapš OR poiesis
City water supply
MH
20:38
Michiel Huijsman
Train horn?
u
20:38
unosonic
I was hoping that it does. great fade indeed.
20:39
spirits are gone now in favour for another reality?
20:39
I can imagine that is does some auto-regulation based on usage or a certain level
P
20:39
Petra Kapš OR poiesis
Where did they go - water spirits?
u
20:40
unosonic
River Drava perhaps
PC
20:40
Peter Cusack
They are still there - just bidding time.
TP
20:41
Tomasz Pizio
was the gain set the same couple minutes ago as now? was there that many sounds before but all covered by the water or am I just getting slowly used to it and hearing more and more every second?
P
20:41
Petra Kapš OR poiesis
I imagine this water comes from the ground, Drava river maybe, it is not collected on the surface
u
20:41
unosonic
yes, I didn't change it (from afar)
TP
20:42
Tomasz Pizio
that is amazing how many layers there are. I know that and I listen to soundscapes a lot but still... this is a very good example of how one sound can mask so many others
P
20:42
Petra Kapš OR poiesis
Levels are the same, mics are attached on the doors, so from this the overwhelming impression of water flow
20:43
Some wind is there
20:43
And heavy clouds above
KE
20:46
Katrin Emler
Yes! And I realized today walking through Grunewald in Berlin that the Wind in fresh leaves sound so soft...
u
20:46
unosonic
Is it a frequented place or rather hidden? The audible topography of the water sounds before and our collective imaginations makes me think of a rather secret place
P
20:47
Petra Kapš OR poiesis
Yes, leaves are still soft also here, still translucent
20:49
It is secret, above there is a path, where all the people go, this spot is on a bit steep area, there is a little path between the trees
20:50
Down there is a balloon covered gim and football spot
TP
20:50
Tomasz Pizio
yeah, you can hear some very distant voices from time to time.
SA
20:51
Sam Auinger
and motocycles and dogs
P
20:51
Petra Kapš OR poiesis
And the traffic comes from behind the hill, autobahn towards austria
MH
20:52
Michiel Huijsman
In reply to this message
From such a distance they someties sound like moaning cows
PC
20:53
Peter Cusack
The birds have stopped. Is it now dark? (Am in the UK which is light still)
SA
20:53
Sam Auinger
In reply to this message
yes indeed
P
20:53
Petra Kapš OR poiesis
Night will start slowly
20:54
Bats!
TP
20:54
Tomasz Pizio
and instantly a bat announces the night :)
u
20:55
unosonic
interesting, these sonic fragments of distant weekend evening city live, blown away by the wind
20:56
I remeber that when I was sitting on Piramida, more than one time...
P
20:57
Petra Kapš OR poiesis
This side is kind of turned a bit away from the city, so silence can be heard also
20:59
And crows, always somewhere around
u
21:02
unosonic
I'll switch the stream on the radio to Berlin now. Petra, will you leave it running over night?
MH
21:02
Michiel Huijsman
Curious how we will experience this upcoming shift!
P
21:03
Petra Kapš OR poiesis
Yes, the stream from Piramida Will go on through the night...
u
21:03
unosonic
the Berlin Buch wetland ambience live stream is at https://radio.aporee.org:8443/mobilemic8 and soon an radio.aporee.org

TP

thanks a lot, that was a very nice evening thanks to this listening experience together here
P
21:05
Petra Kapš OR poiesis
It is very intense mode of listening and sharing thoughts
KE
21:06
Katrin Emler
Interesting the jump to the north... still a lot of activity there!
P
21:06
Petra Kapš OR poiesis
Territory changes completely, flat lands ...
SA
21:07
Sam Auinger
wow here is such a deep space now..from near to mid till far field the animals talk and traffic is a very far in the background
MH
21:09
Michiel Huijsman
The Reed Warbler is intense!
u
21:10
unosonic
yes, they're chatting permanently. nice to watch too within the reed. Ok, now he hast stopped... ;)
21:12
the deep drone comes from the Autobahn ring in the South, and there is a train line not far away
P
21:13
Petra Kapš OR poiesis
How is the spring this year
21:13
Water creaturs wake up
u
21:13
unosonic
rather cold, only a few warm days.
MH
21:13
Michiel Huijsman
Did we hear a fish jumping out of the water?
P
21:14
Petra Kapš OR poiesis
Are there any frogs around the pond?
u
21:14
unosonic
water creatures were trying to steal the microphone last night. It came close, you could hear the breath, very intense.
SA
21:15
Sam Auinger
In reply to this message
could be ,..the mic is close to the water (I joined udo putting it there)
MH
21:15
Michiel Huijsman
Ah, The proverbial Animal!
u
21:15
unosonic
yes, there are frogs, but havn't heard one today
P
21:16
Petra Kapš OR poiesis
Nutria?
MH
21:16
Michiel Huijsman
In reply to this message
Ah thanks, nice to know. the subtile ‘plop’ sounded very near indeed!
21:16
Alarm from an Amsel
P
21:17
Petra Kapš OR poiesis
Birds are talkative!
MH
21:17
Michiel Huijsman
Geese!
P
21:17
Petra Kapš OR poiesis
Is there a fisherman around?
u
21:17
unosonic
some creature walks around... no fischerman...
21:18
think there is no fishing going on in these ponds
21:19
this is also no fish that makes the water sounds
P
21:19
Petra Kapš OR poiesis
It's so vivid, diner party
SK
21:20
Samuel Kudjodzi
Great live feed!👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽 Enjoying from Bad Berka, Thüringen, Germany. 😊
SA
21:22
Sam Auinger
such a musical chat going on
u
21:24
unosonic
I was there today too, in order to arrange the microphones again. It was nice to see that quite some kids without parents were playing in the meadows, reminded me on my village when I was a kid
21:26
big city peripheries are special. this place is safe because it's a sanctuary (Naturschutzgebiet), but a bit away south, at another pond, there is real estate speculation going on. The city wants to grow...
P
21:31
Petra Kapš OR poiesis
Is this a train?
MH
21:31
Michiel Huijsman
Ah a train passing by in the distance
21:32
I like that so much
21:32
Alse here dogs barking
u
21:32
unosonic
yes, there is a train line from the city to the north, both for S-Bahn and longer distance trains, also heavy freight trains during weekdays
MH
21:32
Michiel Huijsman
Hee, is that an Sbahn speeding up?
JT
21:32
Julia Tieke
They have rhythm, so beautiful to listen!
P
21:32
Petra Kapš OR poiesis
Quiet trains
PC
21:33
Peter Cusack
There are the SBahn tones too - utterly special to Berlin
MH
21:34
Michiel Huijsman
In reply to this message
Yes, heard that too. The Warbler is unnerved doing its ramblings...
PC
21:35
Peter Cusack
THis is a great place to hear forest reverberation - on the crow for example.
u
21:35
unosonic
I'm waiting for the Nightingale to tune in... there are so many in the area
21:35
yes, the forest edge is quite close
P
21:36
Petra Kapš OR poiesis
It is much more intense to listen the live stream, have a feeling one of my ears is literally there
21:37
And just wait something will touch me from the evening forest
u
21:38
unosonic
Berlin Buch area
P
21:38
Petra Kapš OR poiesis
What are this low explosion kind of sounds
u
21:39
unosonic
don't know, have not heard it before. Nightingale in the distance
SA
21:42
Sam Auinger
funny it seems all moved far away
PC
21:42
Peter Cusack
At one moment last night there was a beautiful combination of distant nightingales and rather drunk humans singing
u
21:43
unosonic
the city autobahn roar is like a border, or wall. behind there is a different world, it marks sonically an other side
P
21:43
Petra Kapš OR poiesis
What is the light now
PC
21:43
Peter Cusack
Tawney owl - nice
u
21:43
unosonic
it's dark, the owls are singing now...
P
21:44
Petra Kapš OR poiesis
Yes, owls, love them, they bring another flow, ancient wisdom
u
21:44
unosonic
that little Reed warblers chatting (or the absence) changed the complete scene
P
21:45
Petra Kapš OR poiesis
Distant city comes closer with quietness
PC
21:50
Peter Cusack
Interesting that when listening to a stream your ears pay attention to changing perpectives/distance as if you were there. this does not happen with a recording - or maybe the choices we make to record are completely differently focussed.
SA
21:52
Sam Auinger
In reply to this message
two different sets of attention and expectation ?
P
21:53
Petra Kapš OR poiesis
And also knowing we are eavesdropping ads to the alert listening
21:54
We hear the place, but we are unaudible for the territory
SA
21:55
Sam Auinger
In reply to this message
yes this makes a big change
u
21:55
unosonic
you mean in a recording? right now I have the feeling I can hear the landscape
PC
21:57
Peter Cusack
Yes, as a recordist you know that your presence is effecting the soundscape. But until hearing streams I never realised by how much. And what significance that has.
SA
21:57
Sam Auinger
when we record on site our presence plays a part in it..this does not happen now
21:57
In reply to this message
I completly agree
u
22:03
unosonic
btw, I really enjoy it to share ears with you, on this Berlin weekend night we seem to hear from afar, but very closer and more lovely all the tiny drips and drops and cricklecrackle heard with high concentration, and dedicated. very special
SA
22:05
Sam Auinger
thank you udo and petra for this experience and all partneres in ears
P
22:06
Petra Kapš OR poiesis
Yes, very special indeed, thanks to all for this to- gather listening experience

I like the recurring sound of the Sbahn, gives a sort of long rithm...
22:11
Splash!
PC
22:11
Peter Cusack
Udo - hearing the 'landscape' as opposed to hearing the 'soundscape' is a great distinction.
u
22:12
unosonic
good night Petra! Hope to hear Mariborski otok soon... Frogs now !
MH
22:12
Michiel Huijsman
Thanks Petra for your stream in Maribor!

Helicopters, even here (!) and some oystercatchers?
u
22:17
unosonic
Michiel, where?
MH
22:17
Michiel Huijsman
I mean in your stream
22:18
But I might be mistaken with naming the birds in the distance
u
22:18
unosonic
no oystercatchers here. I saw various ducks, water rail, herons, geese
MH
22:20
Michiel Huijsman
Maybe Redshanks then?
u
22:23
unosonic
would be interesting, but I still think it's Water rails...
MH
22:26
Michiel Huijsman
Can we listen back. Do you keep a recording I mean?
u
22:26
unosonic
yes
MH
22:26
Michiel Huijsman
Suddenly a lot happening very nearby. Feathered wings, little splashes
