Today, 12:00 CET (in about 45min!) radio.earth live session from Goworow, Poland, by Tomasz Pizio

The radio.earth mobilemic is set up in the village of Goworow in Poland, in a wide valley, surrounded by mountains. Winter seems to have come to this place early and it's covered with snow, making this agricultural area calm with the exception of inhabitants' cars on the road, flocks of small birds or kestrels circling around the area. The microphones are placed in a back garden with large spruces and some apple trees. The garden opens to vast fields that make for a wide soundscape and allow hearing distant trains and sounds of the village even from afar.

Ah! A train in the distance. I was hoping for one. The train track is far away but the sound carries over

I've heard that one night when the mic was on, it was the only sounds, very long and deep rumbling, seemed an endless train... are these international freight trains?
TP
12:17
Tomasz Pizio
Yes. There is a track to Czech Republic here.

the border line looks interesting, on the map. as if this part of Poland rather belonged to Czech Rep.

I once woke up at 3AM and tuned in to the mic and those roosters were crowing. Same at midnight. They cannot be treated as a reliable alarm clock

I guess it's quite dark at night? No bigger city nearby... so it can't be the light...

Tomasz Pizio
yes, there are just a handful of streetlamps. and the moon :) I think this rooster might just be malfunctioning

broken rooster.
12:30
there is constant aircraft rumble. that was abig surprise some years ago, when I visited my home village with a microphone. There was (is) always aircraft rumble, not loud, but audible.
12:31
im my memory it was silent at nights or early mornings, or sundays...

I think there are no major air corridors here so the planes are flying over not that often. But it's more noticeable on a day like today with almost no wind.

the redundant background noise of various kinds of transportation is affecting or coloring my imagination and ideas. In parallel I'm reading an interview with Germany's new green minister for economy. How to dissolve all these public and personal cognitive dissonances...

it's just one road that goes to and through this village but you might have noticed how long an approaching car is heard. not to mention the far background hum of a more busy road further away
12:55
oh! a tractor like this is what I associate with this kind of village

Extrordinary amount of bass. Is this in a valley?
TP
12:57
Tomasz Pizio
yes, but a very wide one
12:58
maybe 5km wide in this area
PC
12:59
Peter Cusack
Probably too wide to be concentrating the sound as happens in some areas.
TP

Tomasz Pizio
yes, I think that's right. We can barely hear the busy road that goes through it. But I still consider this a proper valley when I can look both east and west out the window and see mountains

this stream is by no means spectacular, but it makes me think a lot on acoustic +/- ecology, and losses.

oh yes, it is boring in the sense that there are no excitements but gives a new perspective to talking about silent, winter soundscape
13:18
there are ravens flying over here sometimes and kestrels. I have heard ravens in the distance today but not kestrels in some time now

I've heard the ravens too, I like their calling. It's soft and gentle, compared to that of the crows.
13:20
(which I also like, and which have a nice repertoire of sounds when you're able to listen closely)

thanks for the company and for arranging the radio.earth.

and thank you, Fernando, for welcoming us in Tsonami
14:03

Yes, many thanks Tomas. At this time of day and year the villge where I spend time in the UK would sound similar. Traffic near and far, trains and occasional birds. One difference though is the church clock which chimes every 15min.

that is a nice addition with the clock.
