Hello everyone, just set up the mobilemic at back garden of the film and television institute of India in Pune. I am conducting a workshop here with the students. And I had a session on listening with them. And as a continuation of that we found a place at the back garden of the institute and placed the microphone. It will be on tonight. Till tomorrow morning. It's getting dark here soon. So we would be able to here the night and the day break as well.
I am expecting lots of different types of birds and insects.

tech note: I'm currently testing a recorder feature on the little Pi computer hanging in the trees right now. Trying to record and post to the radio aporee soundmap while it's streaming. Until now I always had to stop the stream in order to record, either or. Knowing more in a few minutes ;)

Yes, it is normally same everyday in the evening. I have heard it before. Huge amount of birds live on that tree and some other big trees around it. I have never heard the day break there. I am curious about it.

I have noticed Indian myna, sparrows, crows, bats...the students said there are owls as well and they live on that tree. So let's see what we get

Yes, and the transition was really smooth, how the birds stopped and the insects took over.

Here is a screenshot of my recording from that period, shows how smooth that change was

is it typical that such a diversity of birds & co. is located around only a few trees? It was similar to your former place in Kolkata.
That amount of birds in the back garden before sunset was amazing... On the map of the area I see larger open fields north-east, probably that does influence wildlife too?

btw: the recording to aporee maps in the background works fine: https://aporee.org/maps/?loc=55756
I've scheduled a few during the night and morning. let's see, still under construction.

Yes, I noticed huge amount of birds around bigs tress at many places across India. The soil here in Pune is dry, and the terrain is hilly. And those hills are mostly full of bushes, not big tress. It might influence the wildlife. But also pune is greener than many other Indian cities.

Thank you for making listening possible from this interesting location. It's amazing what variety and numbers of birds & co. gather around a few trees in a garden. That's a rather rare phenomena around here. Starlings do that, and migrating birds, I wonder if that's because of this patches of green are rare and the birds have to use what's left, of if it's a change in culture, i.e. adapting to and taking advantage of the circumstances. Maybe both. Anyway, the effect on the soundscape is impressive
